MYRTLE BEACH, SC - NCC scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and then held on for a 6-5 victory over Delaware Tech on Thursday afternoon as they wrapped up their spring trip at the Ripken Experience.
Greg Taylor (1 for 3, 3 RBI) had a 2 run single and
Christian Joest (1 for 2, RBI), added a RBI single in the first as NCC jumped out early to support starting pitcher
Mike Ciavarella (5 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk).
Del Tech rallied in the bottom of the 7th to cut the score to 6-5, but
Aaron Barry came on in relief and earned his second save of the day, striking out the only batter he faced.
"Overall, just a great trip," remarked skipper
Adrian Yaguez, "to finish 7-3 against quality Division II competition is probably more than we could have imagined."
Joey Bamford was 2 for 3 and
Tony Gotshall finished 2 for 4 as NCC pounded out 10 hits.
The Spartans, ranked 7th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, finish their spring trip with a record of 7-3. NCC will host Broome Community College at 1:00pm on Sunday.
