Spartans Wrap up Spring Trip with Victory over Del-Tech

Spartans finish 7-3 on Spring Trip
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - NCC scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and then held on for a 6-5 victory over Delaware Tech on Thursday afternoon as they wrapped up their spring trip at the Ripken Experience.

Greg Taylor (1 for 3, 3 RBI) had a 2 run single and Christian Joest (1 for 2, RBI), added a RBI single in the first as NCC jumped out early to support starting pitcher Mike Ciavarella (5 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk).

Del Tech rallied in the bottom of the 7th to cut the score to 6-5, but Aaron Barry came on in relief and earned his second save of the day, striking out the only batter he faced.

"Overall, just a great trip," remarked skipper Adrian Yaguez, "to finish 7-3 against quality Division II competition is probably more than we could have imagined."

Joey Bamford was 2 for 3 and Tony Gotshall finished 2 for 4 as NCC pounded out 10 hits.

The Spartans, ranked 7th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, finish their spring trip with a record of 7-3.  NCC will host Broome Community College at 1:00pm on Sunday.
