BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The nationally-ranked NCC baseball team returned home after a successful spring trip to sweep Broome Community College (NY) on Sunday afternoon to improve to 9-3 on the season.
In game one the Spartans scored 13 runs on 14 hits and starting pitcher
Talas Mahon (1-0) earned the victory going 5 innings, giving up 3 hits, striking out 1 and allowing no runs, as NCC earned a 13-0 victory.
Mike Tenaglia opened up the scoring for NCC, hitting his 3rd homerun of the season in the bottom of the second inning and
Ryan Mickley (3 for 4, 2 RBI) added a solo shot of his own in the third as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead.
Richie Eilenberger's 2-run double in the 4th inning started a 7 run explosion to break open a 2-0 game.
Joey Bamford was 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI.
In game two the Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, but NCC responded scoring two in the 4th, four in the 5th and two in the 6th to earn an 8-1 victory.
Matt Smith (2-0) went 5 innings, striking out 4, allowing 1 earned run to pick up his second victory of the season.
Billy Turner (2 for 4, 3 RBI) had a 2-run double to highlight the four run 5th inning, while
MIke Tenaglia went 3 for 4 with an RBI and
Eric Bohem finished 2 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Spartans.
Ryan Mickley added a solo homerun in the 6th inning, his second HR of the day.
The 7th ranked Spartans improve to 9-3 on the season and are now off until March 26th when they host Alfred State College in a non-conference matchup.
