Spartans Split Doubleheader with Division II Burlington

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Baseball team returned to action on Thursday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with Division II Burlington County College.

In game one, Taylor Magditch (1-0) earned a complete game victory in his first collegiate start, allowing 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 2 in a 3-0 shutout.

NCC scored 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning as Mike Tenaglia singled, Billy Turner reached base on an error and Eric Bohem singled to load the bases.  Elliot Freeman (1 for 3) singled to score Tenaglia and Ryan Mickley hit a sacrifice fly to score Turner.

NCC added an insurance run in the bottom of the third as Joey Bamford (2 for 3) singled and stole second and then scored on a double by Tenaglia (2 for 3, 1 RBI).

Kyle Dauscher finished 2 for 3 as the Spartans had 9 hits in the victory.

Greg Taylor, who earned the start on the mound in game two for NCC, went 5 innings allowing 2 runs, walking 1 and striking out 4 before being replaced by Anthony Casciano.

NCC was down 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning when Tony Gotshall reached on an error and then advanced to second on a single by Elliot Freeman.  Ryan Mickley reached on error to load the bases and then a Joey Bamford single scored Gotshall and Freeman to tie the game at 5-5. 

After a scoreless 8th inning, the Barons took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the 9th.  Elliot Freeman doubled and advanced to third on a ground out by Mickley.  Richie Eilenberger then executed a squeeze bunt with two outs to score Freeman and tie the game at 6.

The game remained tied until the top of the 11th when Burlington exploded for 6 runs to take a 12-6 lead.  The Spartans put a run on the board in the bottom of the 11th to make the final 12-7.

Elliot Freeman was 4 for 4 with two doubles and four runs scored and Richie Eilenberger was 3 for 6 with 3 RBI.

NCC, ranked 9th in the latest NJCAA poll, is now 17-5 overall while Burlington is 24-16.

The Spatans host Ocean County College on Saturday.
