BETHELHEM, Pa. - Freshman
Mike Tenaglia hit 2 homeruns on the afternoon, including a three-run walkoff shot in the bottom of the 7th of game two to propel NCC baseball to a sweep of Ocean County College on Monday.
In game one, Ocean County jumped out early on starter
Taylor Magditch, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead.
NCC responded in their half of the inning, as
Joey Bamford (2 for 3) singled and Tenaglia hit his team leading 4th homerun of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Eric Bohem singled to lead off the 2nd inning, advanced to third on a single by
Elliott Freeman and then scored when
Ryan Mickley reached on an error, giving the Spartans a 3-2 lead.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th,
Richie Eilenberger doubled and advanced to third on a Bamford single. Bamford attempted to steal second, but got caught in a run down and was called out, Eilenberger broke for home and was was safe on a head first slide under the tag, tying the score at 4-4.
With the scored still tied in the bottom of the 6th,
Kyle Dauscher singled, stole second and eventually scored the winning run on a throwing error by the Ocean shortstop on a ground ball hit by
Dan Eckel.
Closer
Aaron Barry came on in the 7th inning with a 5-4 lead and recorded his 6th save of the year with a 1-2-3 7th inning.
Magditch improved to 3-0 with the win, allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 2.
In game two, the Spartans found themselves in a 2-0 hole in the bottom of the 2nd when
Dan Eckel singled, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by
Tony Gotshall.
Richie Eilenberger then singled home Eckel, cutting the margin to 2-1.
Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Eilenberger and Bamford each singled setting the stage for Tenaglia's 3-run walkoff homerun, which came on a 3-0 count. Tenaglia launched the offering deep into left field for his 5th homerun of the season, giving the Spartans a thrillling 4-3 victory.
Anthony Casciano (4-0) picked up the win in relief of starter
Jake Ruch (6 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 5 K), allowing 1 hit and no runs in one inning of work.
NCC improves to 22-10 overall and 12-6 in Region XIX.
Ocean falls to 13-12 overall and 7-11 in Region XIX.
The Spartans host Bergen County College on Tuesday in their final conference game of the year.
