Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Bucks County CC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite rain, wind and sharply dropping temperatures, Northampton and Bucks County Community College faced off in a Region XIX men's soccer contest on Thursday afternoon, with Bucks earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Bobby Rengifo got the Spartans on the board 15 minutes into the game when he headed in a deflected corner kick to give NCC an early 1-0 lead.

Bucks responded with only 2:22 remaining in the first half when Vanderson Anderson scored off an assist from Shane Nicolo for a 1-1 tie heading into halftime.

The game remained tied until midway through the second half when Nicolo found Brandon Millan with a short cross and Millan netted the game winner past NCC goalkeeper Jeremie Martinez (4 saves).

"Give Bucks credit," remarked NCC head coach Ned Yelovich, "they competed all game and really played well ... Coach Burrows has done a terrific job with his program."

Despite outshooting the Centurians, Northampton falls to 1-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Region XIX.

Bucks improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region XIX.

Northampton returns to action on Saturday September 17th when they travel to 3-1 Ocean County College.
