BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The nationally-ranked NCC women's volleyball team remained perfect on the 2011 season, defeating NJCAA Division II Harcum College in five sets (15-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-21, 15-11) on Thursday night.
Harcum jumped on the Spartans early, but NCC rallied behind the outstanding defensive play of
Courtney Rice (28 digs) and
Sabrina Gonzalez (30 digs) and the offensive attack of
Kelly Yagerhofer (13 kills, 2 aces) and
Meghan Granite (6 kills).
"An absolutely great victory," shouted an excited
Adrian Yaguez, (NCC Head Coach) while traveling home on a very loud team bus, "the girls really responded again tonight in a pressure situation ... we are becoming habitually slow starters, but we have been able to finish strong."
Halie Cintron added 4 kills, 26 assists and 10 digs as the Spartans improved to 6-0 overall (4-0 Region XIX).
Harcum falls to 8-3 overall.
Northampton returns to action this weekend with a quad match at the Spartan Center. NCC will face Bergen, Union and Atlantic Cape in crucial Region XIX matches on Saturday.
