HARRISBURG, Pa. - With their playoff backs against the wall, the Northampton men's soccer team responded with a 3-1 road victory over Harrisburg Area Community College on Saturday afternoon to keep their postseason chances alive.
Ismael Pino got the Spartans on the board 40 minutes into the match off a cross from
Jose Matute, giving NCC a 1-0 advantage which they took to the locker room at intermission.
Tyler Adams gave NCC a two goal cushion when he found the back of the net off a scramble in front of the net from a
Jose Matute shot.
Matute convereted a penalty kick to make the score 3-0, with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Harriburg got on the board with just under 12 minutes left in the match on a great shot from Besnirk Demiri, who bent his free kick over the NCC defensive wall and into upper corner of the goal to make the score 3-1.
Ronnie Mendizabal recorded the win in goal in for Northampton, notching 4 saves.
Northampton improves to 3-4-3 in Region XIX and EPAC play with two games remaining.
Harrisburg, which had won two straight, falls to 3-8-0.
The Spartans return to the pitch on Monday October 15th at 3:30pm when they host Lehigh Carbon Community College in a pivotal conference game.
