BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a must win situation, the Northampton men's soccer team pulled out all the stops in a rain-soaked affair, defeating conference rival Lehigh Carbon Community College, 7-1, to remain alive in the Region XIX playoff hunt.
Jose Ortiz got the Spartans on board 12 minutes into the game with an assist from Bobby Koch.
Ismael Pino than gave NCC a 2-0 lead with 9 minutes to play in the first half off a pass from
Sean Scerbo.
The Spartans then exploded for 5 second half goals, with
Tyler Adams,
Tyler Garr,
Jasmani Zavala and
Todd Lerch (2) each finding the back of the net as NCC registered their highest scoring output in 3 seasons.
Northampton improves to 4-4-3 in conference play and 4-9-3 overall.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 1-14-0 overall and 0-11-0 in conference play.
Northampton travels to Montgomery County Community College on Wednesday in winner-take-all season finale as both teams need a victory to qualify for the postseason. The match is scheduled to kick off at 3:30pm.
