Soccer Falls Short in Playoff Bid

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Playing in what amounted to a winner-take-all match, the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs scored a late goal to earn a 2-1 victory and a spot in the Region XIX playoffs, knocking NCC out of playoff contention.

Northampton's Jose Matute (William Allen) scored his 10th goal of the season off an assist from Alex Rubino to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead, but MontCo tied the game early the second half and then Anthony DeFrancesco scored what proved to be the game winner with just over 15 minutes remaining.

"The guys played hard, obviously they are disappointed," stated Head Coach Joe Heitczman, "making the playoffs was definitely one of our goals, but these guys should hold their heads high, they achieved alot of positive things this year and as a program we are headed in the right direction."

Northampton ends the season with an overall record of 4-10-3 and a conference mark of 4-5-3.

Montgomery improves to 6-5-3 overall and 5-5-2 in conference.

The Mustangs will the #3 seed in the EPAC conference for the upcoming Region XIX tournament.
