Spartans Split with Hornets in Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC baseball team continued their up and down play, splitting a doubleheader with Broome Community College on Sunday in their home opener, dropping game one 4-3 in 9 innings and winning the nightcap 11-2.

Matt Smith (Parkland) went 7 innings in game one, allowing only 3 hits, 1 earned run and striking out 8, but the NCC offense could only manage one run over the first seven innings as well. 

Broome scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th, but NCC matched it in the bottom, but the Hornets were able to plate the winning run in the top of the 9th.  NCC committed 7 errors in the loss.

Ellott Freeman was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, including a 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game and Mike Tenaglia was 1 for 4 with a run scored to lead NCC.

In game two, Tenaglia went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Greg Garcia was 2 for 3 with an RBI as the Spartans took an 11-2 victory.

Taylor Magditch earned the victory in game two, throwing 5 innings of 3-hit ball, striking out 4 and walking two.

NCC returns to action on Saturday April 24th when they host Onondaga Community College from Syracuse, NY.
