TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton Baseball team split a doubleheader at Ocean County College on Saturday, falling 15-1 in game one and then rebounding for a 12-3 victory in the nightcap.
In game one, NCC pitchers struggled to record outs, as Ocean pounded out 17 hits. Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez used three pitchers;
Cody Klinger,
Greg Taylor and
Talas Mahon, with Klinger taking the loss to fall to 1-3.
NCC scored their only run of the game in the 3rd inning on a DJ Williams (2 for 3) sacrifice fly to score
Alex Longernecker (1 for 2, double) who walked to open the inning.
In game two, Ocean took an early 2-0 lead on starter
Taylor Magditch (4-1), but Magditch regained his composure and earned the victory with a complete game 5-hitter, striking out 7.
Trailing 2-0, the Spartans scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 6-2 lead.
In the 4th inning,
Mike Tenaglia (3 for 5, 4 RBI, 2 HR) hit his 3rd homerun of the season, a solo shot to right center to give NCC a 7-2 lead.
NCC aded 3 runs in the 6th as Tenaglia singled,
Preston Koehler singled,
Luke Szoke walked and
Kyle Dauscher hit a bases clearing triple to make it 10-3.
Tenaglia hit his 2nd homerun of the day in the 7th, a 2-run shot to left field to make the final 12-3 NCC.
Northampton improves to 14-12 overall and 9-3 in Region XIX.
Ocean is now 9-9 overall and 7-7 in Region XIX.
NCC returns to action on Sunday when they host first place Camden County College (13-1/22-6) at noon.
