BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team swept a Region XIX doubleheader from Delaware County Community College on Tuesday afternoon to notch their 20th and 21st victories of the season, giving the Spartans their third consecutive 20-win campaign.
The Spartans rode the right arm of
Kyle Farnholtz (2-0) to an 11-0 victory in game one. Farnholtz threw a complete game 2-hit shutout, striking out 3 and walking none, retiring the final 19 batters of the game.
The Spartans supplied Farnholtz with all the offense he would need in the 1st inning as DJ Williams walked, stole second and then scored on a RBI double by Jon DeJesus.
Elliott Freeman then ripped a single to score DeJesus to give NCC a 2-0 lead.
Mike Tenaglia, the EPAC Athlete of the Week, was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 doubles to pace the offense, while
Preston Koehler finished 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
In game two,
Shawn Heck (2-0) picked up his 2nd win of the season, with help from
Anthony Casciano, as NCC prevailed 10-5.
Tenaglia and Koehler picked up where they left off in game one, with Tenaglia (2 for 3) knocking in 4 more runs and Koehler (3 for 3) adding 2 RBI, 2 runs and 2 stolen bases.
Alex Longernecker (2 for 3) scored NCC's first run of the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from
Mike Tenaglia, after he had doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball to open the inning.
NCC, now 21-13 overall and 16-4 in Region XIX, hosts nationally-ranked Gloucester County College on Thursday at 1pm in a battle for Region XIX supremacy.
