BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman goaltender
Ronnie Mendizabal recorded his 4th shutout of the season, blanking Harrisburg Community College 3-0 on Saturday as the Spartans snapped their 2-game losing streak.
Mendizabal turned away 9 shots as NCC scored 3 first half goals and coasted to the victory to remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-3.
Travis James got NCC on the board three minutes into the game off a cross from
Jose Matute, beating the Harrisburg keeper to the far post for a 1-0 advantage.
Matute scored his 8th goal of the season three minutes later, with the assist from
Joel Snyder, giving Northampton a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore
Steffon Kellman finished off the scoring for NCC with 15 minutes remaining in the first half with an assist from
Mike Hughart.
"Good effort to bounce back today after a couple sound defeats," remarked Head Coach Joe Heitczman, "we were able to accomplish a couple of goals today, first we got a couple other guys in the scoring column besides Matute and two we remained unbeaten in conference play ... we are in a position where we control our own destiny in terms of qualifying for postseason play, so the guys are very focused."
NCC improves to 2-4-3 overall while Harrisburg falls to 0-5-0.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday in a make-up game vs. conference leader Manor College at 3:30pm.
