BLUE BELL, Pa. - In a match played in a playoff-like atmosphere, the Northampton Community College women's volleyball team remained undefeated, knocking off defending Region XIX champion Montgomery County Community College, 26-24, 25-13, 25-14.
The first set of the night may have proved to be the difference maker in the match as the home standing Mustangs, playing before a packed house, led 22-17 and then got the game to set point at 24-22, before the Spartans called timeout and then rattled off 4 straight points to take the first set 26-24 in stunning fashion.
"I think that took a little wind out of their sails," commented Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "Montgomery was ready for us, they are very talented and very well-coached, but you could feel the momentum swing after that and it really impacted the match."
The Spartans then took control, taking set two 25-13 and set three 25-14.
Kelly Yagerhofer had 12 kills, 2 aces and 2 digs,
Anna Domyan recorded 7 kills, 4 digs, and
Barbara Dimon notched 7 kills and 4 digs for NCC.
Bethlehem Catholic graduate
Ashley McCauley added 29 assists and a season-high 13 digs and
Lindsey Kizer had 12 digs as the Spartans played their best defensive match of the season.
The win propels nationally-ranked Northampton to 11-0 overall and 10-0 in Region XIX.
Montgomery falls to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center when they host Delaware County Community College (5-5 / 3-5) at noon.
