BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman
Mike Gaudette scored two second half goals to lead Northampton to a 2-1 victory over Bucks County Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
Bucks, which tied the Spartans 1-1 on September 10th, Â took a 1-0 lead into the intermission on a goal with 34 minutes remaining in the first half.
Northampton tied the contest at 1-1 when Gaudette converted a penalty kick midway through the second half. Â Gaudette then scored, what proved to be the game winner, five minutes later and the Spartan defense held on to secure the 2-1 victory.
"I thought our defense did a better job today of clearing and marking," commented Head Coach Joe Heitczman, "
Ryan Gunderman and
Alex Rubino stepped up today and I thought Ronnie (Mendizabal) played well between the pipes."
The win propels Northampton to 4-3-1 in conference play (4-6-1 overall) as they continue to fight to qualify for the Region XIX playoffs.
Bucks falls to 4-3-2 in conference and 4-6-2 overall with the loss.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Iron Lakes to face Lehigh Carbon Commuity College in a crucial EPAC matchup.
