MEDIA, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team opened Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play on Thursday with a convincing 18-4 victory over Delaware County Community College at Matta Field.
The Spartans pounded out 17 hits and took advantage of 6 Phantom errors to score a season-high 18 runs.
Jon DeJesus was 4 for 6 with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored and
Tyler Ruoss went 3 for 6 with 3 RBI to lead the Northampton offense.
Nick Hoffman (2-0) earned the win, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, striking out 2.
Matt Roberts,
Cody Klinger,
Kyle Farnholtz and
Bobby Reddick all saw action out of the Spartan bullpen over the final 4 1/3 innings.
Preston Koehler added 3 hits and
Tyler Duplaga scored 4 runs as NCC improved to 11-4 overall (1-0 conference).
Northampton returns to action on Saturday when they host Cumberland County College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
