Montgomery Upsets Northampton in Conference Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding the right arm of Jay Kluka, Montgomery County Community College upset Northampton, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon ending NCC's quest for a perfect conference record.  Northampton, which clinched the conference title last week, finishes with a 9-1 mark in Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play.

Kluka, who scattered 10 hits, struck out 15 Spartans in the complete game victory, "I give Kluka a ton of credit," remarked Spartan Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "he is a tough kid and he put that team on his back today."

The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Carlos Urena tripled, scoring Preston Koehler who had singled to lead off the inning.

Montgomery led 3-1 entering the bottom of the 7th when Ryan Goodwin tripled and then scored on a Michael Agosto (3 for 3, RBI) single to right field, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Mustangs extended their lead back to two runs in the top of the 8th when Anthony Pletscher deposited a Kyle Farnholtz pitch over the left field fence, making the score 4-2.

NCC loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th, but failed to push across a run, falling to 23-9 overall and 9-1 in Region XIX.

Montgomery improves to 24-10 and 6-3 in Region XIX.

Northampton returns to the diamond on Sunday when they host Region XIX power Brookdale Community College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
