Jersey Blues Take Two from Spartans

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team dropped a crucial doubleheader to Brookdale Community College, falling 17-3 in game one and 3-2 in game two on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Northampton ace Cody Klinger (6-4) took the loss in game one, allowing 11 hits and 9 runs in just 4 innings of work.  Matt Roberts and Nick Hoffman each came on in relief, as the Jersey Blues pounded out 20 hits in the victory.

Ryan Goodwin was 1 for 2 with a triple and RBI and Jon DeJesus was 1 for 1 with a RBI to lead Northampton.

Game two took on a much more competitive tone, with Brookdale striking first with two runs in the second, the Spartans struck back on a Ryan Goodwin RBI double in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1.

The Jersey Blues added what proved to be the winning run in the top of the 4th to make it 3-1, before Michael Agosto (2 for 3, RBI), singled home a run in the bottom of the 4th to curt the deficit to 3-2.

The score remained 3-2 into the bottom of the 7th when the Spartans got consecutive two-out singles from Colby Kulig and Agosto to put runners on 1st and 3rd, but Carlos Urena grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Bobby Reddick (5-1) took the loss for Northampton, throwing a complete game 6-hitter, striking out 6, walking 3.

Northampton drops to 23-11 overall (9-1 Region XIX), while Brookdale improves to 32-12 overall.

The Spartans close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host Division II County College of Morris in a non-league matchup.
