BLACKWOOD, NJ - The 2013 season came to end on Friday for the Northampton baseball team, as the 5th seeded Spartans fell to #1 Gloucester and #3 Brookdale, thus being eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
The Spartans jumped out early on #1 Gloucester as
Tyler Ruoss hit a two-run homerun in the 1st inning, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners (43-3) exploded for 14 runs, en route to a 14-4 victory in the opening game of the tournament.
Northampton then traveled to Camden County College to face Brookdale Community College in the elimination game, as the Jersey Blues fell to Camden, 8-0, in their opener.
Once again the Spartans played well early, holding a 2-1 lead after 6 innings, but Brookdale (38-13) broke things open with 3 runs in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to earn a 7-2 victory.
Northampton finishes the season with a 27-13 record, including an EPAC championship and their 4th consecutive trip to the Region XIX Final Four.
