Baseball Splits with Cumberland, Deciding Game Set for Sunday

VINELAND, NJ - Northampton and Cumberland split the first two games of their best of three series on Saturday, with the Dukes taking game on 8-4 and the Spartans rebounding to win game two 10-3.  The two teams will meet on Sunday at noon at Cumberland to determine who advances to the Region XIX Final Four.

In game one, Northampton led 3-1 entering the bottom of the 6th inning, but Cumberland exploded for 4 runs and added 3 more in the 7th to take an 8-3 lead.  Northampton added a run in the 8th to make the final 8-4.

Bobby Reddick (5-2) took the loss, going 6.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, 8 runs, while striking out 1.  Matt Roberts came on in relief, giving up 1 hit and fanning one.

Tyler Ruoss was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Tyler Duplaga was 2 for 4 with a RBI and Carlos Urena added a triple to pace the Spartans.

In game two, Kyle Farnholtz (7-4) threw a complete game, striking out 8 and walking none as the Spartans prevailed 10-3.

NCC jumped out early once again, plating two runs in the top of the first.  Jake Chamberlain (2 for 4, triple, 2 RBI) singled, Tyler Duplaga singled and Tyler Ruoss was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Preston Koehler hit a pop fly to left field, but the ball was misplayed, allowing Chamberlain and Duplaga to score.

In the 5th inning, Ruoss singled, Koehler singled and Ryan Goodwin singled, scoring Ruoss.  Carlos Urena (3 for 4, RBI), then singled to score Koehler and put NCC up 4-0.

Koehler added a homerun in the 7th.
