Soccer Tops Lehigh Carbon, 4-1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team notched their first victory of the 2013 season with a 4-1 victory over visiting Lehigh Carbon Community College on Thursday afternoon.

NCC got on the board early as Mike Gaudette took a pass from John Hapes and beat Cougar goalkeeper Luis Daza give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

LCCC tied the game on an own goal by the Spartan defense at the 34:40 mark to make the score 1-1.

Gaudette found the back of the net for the second time at 28:38 as he outpaced a Cougar defender and beat Daza to the far post for a 2-1 Spartan advantage.

Alex Rubino gave Northampton a 3-1 halftime margin off an assist from Hapes with 6:27 remaining in the half.

The Spartans completed the scoring at the 22:53 mark of the second half when Alex Guerra headed in a John Houck throw-in to make the score 4-1.

Ronnie Mendizabal recorded 3 saves as Northampton outshot LCCC 10-4.

Northampton, now 1-2-1 overall, travels to Brookdale Community College on Saturday to face the Jersey Blues at 12pm.

LCCC falls to 2-2-0.
