LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton men's soccer team battled 8th ranked Brookdale Community College for 90 minutes, but the Jersey Blues were able to outlast the Spartans and earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Jersey Blues got on the board first, putting a direct kick from just outside the 18 past Spartan goalkeeper
Ronnie Mendizabal, at the 37:06 mark. Northampton evened the score less than a minute later as
Mike Gaudette converted a penalty kick to make the score 1-1.
Brookdale regained the lead at 31:21 off a head ball on a corner kick to make it 2-1 at halftime.
BCC increased their lead to 3-1 with 14 minutes remaining in the game, but the Spartans cut it to 3-2 off a strong play from
Brian Garcia, who found
Josh Houck with a through ball with just over 6 minutes remaining.
Brookdale was able to control the ball over the final 6 minutes to earn the victory and improve to 3-1-1 overall.
NCC, 1-3-1, returns to action on Monday when they host conference foe Harrisburg Area Community College at 3:30pm.
