Men's Soccer

Spartans Soar Past Hawks in Men's Soccer

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer exploded for 11 goals, including four from sophomore Tyler Garr as the Spartans defeated Harrisburg Area Community College, 11-2, on Monday afternoon.

The Spartans jumped out quickly as Anton Pasternak beat his defender and was able to ricochet a shot off a Harrisburg defender to give NCC a 1-0 lead.  Garr then started his scoring barrage, scoring the next 3 goals for NCC.  Garr's four goals tied the all-time Northampton record for goals in a game; Eric Jimenez October 8, 2011 vs. Atlantic Cape Community College and Peter Underwood vs. Delaware County Community College on October 1, 2008.

Northampton increased their lead to 6-0 by the break, as Josh Houck and John Hapes added goals.

Garr got back on the board again early in the second half off a cross from Alex Azambuja to make the score 7-0.  Azambuja got back in the mix, finding Christian Bardales to increase the score to 8-0.

Harrisburg tallied their first goal off a defensive miscue by the Spartans, but Hapes was able to return the favor, winning a ball at midfield and finding Joel Snyder, who found the back of the net from 17 yards out to make it 9-1.

Pasternak got his second goal of the day to make it 10-1, before Harrisburg scored their second goal of the game.  Xavier Amancha finished the scoring for NCC, getting a tap-in goal to make the final 11-2.  The 11 goals scored in one game were second most in Northampton soccer history, behind the 13 scored in 1972 vs. Lehigh Carbon Community College and Penn St. Schuylkill.

Northampton improves to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Region XIX.

Harrisburg falls to 0-4-0.

The Spartans host Sussex County Community College in a non-conference matchup on Thursday September 19th at 3:30pm.
