BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sussex County Community College goalkeeper Justin Pope turned back three shots to record the shutout and lead the Skylanders to a 3-0 victory on Thursday afternoon over the Northampton men's soccer team in a non-conference matchup.
After playing to a 0-0 halftime deadlock, Sussex got on the board with just under 28 minutes remaining, when Carmine Caruso broke through the NCC defense and beat Spartan goalkeeper
Ronnie Mendizabal for a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later Dan Goetchius found the back of the net with an insurance goal to give Sussex a 2-0 advantage.
Sussex finished the scoring with 20 seconds left in the match when Vito Cornish outran the Spartan defense to make the final 3-0.
Northampton, which falls to 2-4-1 overall (2-2-1 conference), hosts Middlesex County College at noon on Saturday.
Sussex improves to 4-3-0 with the victory.
