BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The offensive woes continued for the Northampton men's soccer team, as they were shutout for the second consecutive game and third time this season, falling to Middlesex County Community College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.
The Colts opened the scoring less than 3 minutes into the game, when Edwin Molina took a pass from Greg Ciuba and beat Spartan goaltender
Ronnie Mendizabal.
Middlesex made it 2-0 when Molina won a 50-50 ball at midfield and passed through the defense to Shaun Akers who tapped the ball in far post.
Obeth Silva made it 3-0 at the 43:12 mark of the second half when he beat Mendizabal with a rocket to the upper 90 from 26 yards out.
"We continue to struggle offensively," commented Head Coach Joe Heitczman, "we can't seem to get a rhythm and it ends up hurting us defensively as well."
The loss drops Northampton to 2-5-1 overall (2-2-1 conference).
Middlesex improves to 3-4-0 overall.
Northampton returns to the pitch on Tuesday when the host Region-leading Manor College at 3:30pm.
