Volleyball Opens 2013 with Sweep of Montgomery County

BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton women's volleyball team opened the 2013 campaign with a convincing 3 game sweep of Montgomery County Community College on Wednesday evening at Bach Arena.

The Spartans, the defending Region XIX champions, downed the Mustangs 25-22, 25-23, 25-20 to earn the season-opening victory.  "It was a good college volleyball match," remarked Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "Montgomery is so well coached, it is always a battle when we play them ... they are a very tough team to open the season with, but overall I am very happy with how we performed."

Anna Domyan paced Northampton with 12 kills, 3 assists and 24 digs, while Barbara Dimon added 15 kills and Ashley McCauley recorded 58 assists.

Freshmen Sawyer Hoyak, Emily Koehler and Samantha Bertasavage contributed 18 digs, 9 kills and 7 kills respectively.

Northampton (1-0 / 1-0) returns to action on Thursday when they host Division II Harcum College at the Arthur L. Scott Spatan Center at 6pm.
