Volleyball Victorious on Sophomore Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's volleyball team gave their sophomores a well-deserved send off, defeating Brookdale Community College 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 on Wednesday night at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.

Sophomores Samantha Bertasavage (5 kills), Heather Kobrzynski (1 ace, 1 dig), Samantha Schnabel, Emily Koehler (16 kills, 3 aces, 4 digs) and Sawyer Hoyak (6 digs) played their last regular season home match, improving to 27-0 on the season.

The Spartans also celebrated sophomore night by holding their "Dig Pink" event which help spread awareness and raise money for cancer research.

"I'm really proud of the team," stated Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "not just for how they played tonight, but for the effort that they put into the Dig Pink event ... it is really a great group of young ladies and they have a chance to do something pretty special this year."

The Spartans, ranked 6th nationally, travel to Syracuse, NY this weekend to compete in the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga Community College. Northampton won the tournament last year, as Emily Koehler earned MVP honors. "The Cara Bryant Tournament will be a challenge," remarked Yaguez, "there are some great teams there and we are scheduled to face Monroe Community College on Saturday, which is currently ranked 5th nationally."
