Baseball Opens 2014 with Two Victories in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton Baseball team opened the 2014 campaign with two victories on Monday, defeating Chesapeake College 4-3 and Mohawk Valley Community College 10-8, during their spring trip at the Ripken Experience.

Northampton, which actually opened the season on Sunday vs. NJCAA Division I Triton College in a game that was eventually delayed after 4 innings, rode the arm of Zach Werner (5 2/3 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, 2 BB, 5 strikeouts) and the timely hiting of Mike Agosto (2 for 3) to defeat NJCAA Division II Chesapeake College on Monday.

Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the 5th inning, Agosto scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Todero (1 for 2, 1 RBI) to tie the game at 3-3, which it remained until the bottom of the 7th.

Alex Zaner walked to lead off the bottom of the 7th and advanced from first to third on a passed ball.  Agosto then singled to right field to plate Zaner with the winning run.
