Baseball Finishes 5-2 on Spring Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team went 1-1 on Wednesday to finish their Spring Trip with an overall record of 5-2. 

In game one, Northampton faced off against Division II Mercer County Community College and the two teams battled for 8 innings before the Vikings plated two runs in the bottom of the 8th to earn a 3-2 victory.

Tyler Duplaga's double in the 4th inning scored Mike Agosto and gave Northampton a 1-0 lead.  Tied 1-1 entering the 8th innning, Duplaga (2 for 4) tripled to score Luini Ortiz (2 for 3) to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

Mercer scored the tying run in the bottom of the 8th on a passed ball and then Brandon Kirk knocked in the winning run with a single, to give Mercer the extra inning victory.

Mike Anthony took the loss, going 7 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3.

In game two, Northampton fell behind 4-2 after 3 innings, but outscored CSM 5-0 over the last 4 innings to earn a 7-4 victory in their final game at the Ripken Experience.

Josh McClain earned the victory in relief of Zach Sheranko, throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run, and 1 hit while striking out 3.  Nick Todero was 3 for 4, Luini Ortiz 1 for 2 and Tyler Zimmerman 1 for 2 with a double, run scored and 2 RBI as the Spartans finished their Spring Trip with a record of 5-2.
