#10 Northampton Opens Conference Play with Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton, the 10th ranked team in the country, opened Region XIX and Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play with a 12-5 victory over Delaware County Community College on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Playing their first home game of the season, despite temperatures hovering in the high 30's, the Spartans jumped out early with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a 2-run single from Dylan Tamecki (2 for 4, 3 RBI).

Luini Ortiz finished 4 for 5 with 2 RBI, including a RBI single in the 5th inning which scored Zach Sheranko to give Northampton a 6-4 advantage.

Head Coach Adrian Yaguez used nine pitchers in the win, with Joe Kaspar (1 inning pitched, 2 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, and 2 strikeouts) earning the victory .

 The loss drops Delaware tp 0-4 overall and 0-1 in Region XIX.

Northampton improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in Region XIX.

The Spartans, who were scheduled to travel to Syracuse, NY this weekend for a 4-game set, will now host the Lazers of Onondaga Community College on Sunday March 30th in a doubleheader slated for 1pm.
