Baseball Upset by Montgomery in EPAC Showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Montgomery County Community College spoiled Northampton's bid for a perfect conference season, upsetting the Spartans on Thursday afternoon in their conference finale, 13-4.

Northampton, which clinched its third consecutive EPAC championship when they defeated Lehigh Carbon on Tuesday, managed only 5 hits in the home loss on Thursday.

"We have been a  little up and down lately," remarked Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "we are definitely in a little bit of a down cycle right now, but I'm confident in the guys and their ability to bounce back on Saturday when we travel to Brookdale."

The Spartans led 3-0 after three innings, but Montgomery tied the game with a 3-run 4th.  Tyler Duplaga's two-out single scored Tyler Ruoss in the bottom of the 4th to give NCC a 4-3 lead, but the Mustangs were able to even things up at 4 with a run in the top of the 6th.

After a scoreless 7th inning for both teams, Montgomery erupted for 9 runs over the last two innings to earn the 13-4 victory and improve to 5-4 in conference play and 19-11 overall.

Zach Sheranko and Tyler Duplaga each finished 2 for 4 with a RBI and Nick Todero was 1 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases to lead Northampton.
