BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Middlesex County College, fighting for their playoff lives, used strong pitching, solid defense and timely hitting to take sweep a crucial doubleheader from Northampton on Sunday at Spartan Park.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the 4th inning in game one,
Zach Sheranko (2 for 3) and
Josh McClain each singled to start the inning.
Luini Ortiz then laced a single to right field, scoring Sheranko and advancing McClain to third base.
Tyler Duplaga (1 for 2) then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score McClain and tie the game at 2-2.
Middlesex scored in the top of the 8th, using an NCC error to help plate the eventual winning run in their 3-2 victory.
The Spartans wasted a terrific outing from starting pitcher
Mike Anthony (3-3) who took the loss, going 7.2 innings, allowing 0 earned runs (3 unearned), striking out 11 and walking one.

In game two, Northampton led 1-0 entering the 7th inning, but the Colts rallied with 3 runs in the top of the 7th for a 3-1 lead and eventual victory.
In the bottom of the 6th,
Mike Agosto had led off the inning with a single, followed by a
Zach Sheranko (1 for 2) sacrifice bunt, which with Agosto moving on the pitch, advanced him to third base.
Josh McClain then delivered a sacrifice fly to centerfield, which scored Agosto (1 for 3) for a 1-0 Spartan lead.
Dylan Borawski (1-2) took the loss, going 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs and 8 hits while striking out 2.
