BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker in their home opener, falling to the County College of Morris, 19-18, on Wednesday afternoon in a Region XIX matchup.
Brian Wahlgren scored 6 goals and
J.R. Corlette added 5 as Northampton played their most inspired lacrosse of the season in front of a raucous home crowd. The Spartans tied the game in the 4th quarter, but the Titans were able to score late and then hold off a NCC charge to earn the important Region XIX victory.
"It was by far our best effort of the season," remarked Head Coach
Paul Miller, "losing Jon Burley early the game to an injury really hurt us, but the guys left everything on the field ... it really came down to whoever had possession last."
Anthony Pellicciotti recorded a season-high 21 saves and
Travis Hartranft added 2 goals and 5 assists to pace the Northampton attack.
The loss drops Northampton to 0-3 in Region XIX and 0-5 overall.
Morris improves to 1-0 in Region XIX and 3-6 overall.
