Baseball Falls in Regional Tournament to Brookdale

LINCROFT, NJ - The 5th seeded Northampton Spartans saw their season come to a disappointing end on Saturday, falling to 4th seeded Brookdale Community College, 11-0 and 8-2, in their opening round best of three series.

In game one, Zach Werner (2-2) took the loss, going 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, 8 runs (6 earned), striking out 3.  The Jersey Blues put 7 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd, highlighted by a grand slam from Luis Hidalgo, who finished the contest with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI.

Zach Sheranko, the EPAC Player of the Year, was 2 for 2 and First Team All-Conference selection Nick Todero was 1 for 2 to pace the Spartan attack.

In game two, the Spartans hoped to ride the right arm of their ace Mike Anthony to victory, but errors once again hindered Northampton, as Brookdale advanced with an 8-2 victory.

Anthony (3-4) went 6 innings, allowing 9 hits, 5 runs (2 earned) and striking out 9, but NCC could only manage 6 hits and 2 runs off Brookdale pitching.

Mike Agosto and Zach Sheranko each had a RBI, while Nick Todero was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Dylan Tamecki was 2 for 3 with a double to lead NCC.

"It's definitely disappointing," remarked Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "we definitely had higher hopes for this season, but our inability to make plays on the defensive side and the lack of hitting in clutch situations really hurt us down the stretch.  Give Brookdale credit, they a very good program and Coach Johnson does a great job."

The Spartans, who ended the season with 5 consecutive losses, finish with an overall record of 18-11.
