Soccer Winning Streak at Four after Victory over Valley Forge

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Rain could not slow down the Northampton men's soccer team on Thursday afternoon as they cruised to their 4th straight victory with an 8-0 win over Valley Forge Military Academy.

Baidy Ba (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) scored 2 goals and recorded 2 assists and Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) and Sam Gaye (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) each added 2 goals as the Spartans outshot the visiting Trojans, 30 to 7. The Spartans now have three players with double-digit goals; Ba 12, Jacona 11 and Gaye 10. Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) recorded his 3rd consecutive shutout as Northampton lowered their goals against average to 1.56.

"We finally got off to quick start," commented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "we have had some real slow starts in our last few games, but today we scored that first goal 5 minutes into the contest and we really just took off from there."

The Spartans led 3-0 at halftime in steady rain and added 5 more goals in the second half. Aaron Timbe (Elgin, IL/Larkin (IL)) and Hamdi Selmi (Tunisia/Soussa - Tunisia ) also scored for Northampton which now has 43 goals scored in 7 games for an average of 6.1 goals per game.

Northampton improved to 6-1-0 with the victory, while Valley Forge fell to 0-9-0.

The Spartans travel to Media, PA on Saturday to face Delaware County Community College at 12:00pm.
