BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Sussex County Community College men's soccer team broke open a 1-1 halftime deadlock with 4 quick second half goals and coasted to a 7-1 victory on Thursday afternoon over Northampton in a non-conference match-up.
Sam Gaye (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) gave Northampton an early 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the contest, off an assist from
Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ), and the Spartans and Skylanders played an evenly contested first half, but the Skylanders broke open the flood gates early in the second stanza.
Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) had 10 saves in net for Northampton.Â
"They came out of the half ready to play and we didn't respond," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "it is that simple ... they are a talented group, and those quick second half goals really deflated us mentally ... we just didn't play the same after that."
Northampton drops to 8-3-0 overall and remains 8-2-0 in conference play.
Sussex improves to 12-3-0 overall with the victory.Â
Northampton hosts Delaware County Community College on Saturday at 2:30 in an EPAC contest.Â
