MEDIA, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Soccer team earned a share of the EPAC Championship with an 8-0 victory over Delaware County Community College on Monday afternoon at Johnson Field.
The victory moves the Spartans to 10-2-0 in conference play, which puts them in a three-way tie with Bucks County and Montgomery County for the conference title.Â
Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) tied a school-record for goals in a game with 5, while
Sam Gaye (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) added 3 goals to pace the Spartans. Â Jacona's 5 goals ties the record held by
Baidy Ba (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) set on September 17th of this year vs. Lehigh Carbon Community College. Â Jacona's 25 goals this season ranks 3rd all-time at Northampton, trailing only Florentino Cerullo who scored 28 in 1972 and Peter Underwood who had 27 tallies in 2008.Â
Ba had 3 assists in the game, giving him 19 for his career, breaking the all-time record of 17 held by Alfred Yetta. Â Ba's 17 assists this season ties him with Yetta (2008) for the most in a single season.Â
Cesar Hernandez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg),
Hamdi Selmi (Tunisia/Soussa - Tunisia ),
Colin Marsden (Fremoale, PA /Palisades) and
Jonathan Bauder (Hellertown, PA /Geneva (NY)) each had one assist, while
Bryan Angel (Tobyhanna, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) earned his first career shutout, stopping 10 shots.Â
Northampton, now 10-3-0 overall, travels to Middlesex County College on Tuesday to face the Colts at 3:30pm in their last regular season contest.Â
Delaware falls to 2-11-0 overall and 2-9-0 in conference play.Â
