PARAMUS, NJ - The Northampton men's soccer team's record-setting season ended with a loss in the Regional semifinals to 7th ranked Bergen Community College, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon.
Bergen opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game when they converted a penalty kick and then 55 seconds later the Bulldogs caught the Spartan defense off-guard with a thru ball to make the score 2-0. The Bulldogs added a goal midway thru the second half and their final tally with just under 2 minutes to play to make the final score 4-0.
Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) recorded 15 saves in goal for Northampton.
The Spartans finish the season with a record of 11-5-0, a share of the EPAC championship and a playoff victory, just one year after a 3-10-0 season, "It was a very rewarding season," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I think we have started to turn the corner and hopefully we can build off this and become a consistent contender for the region title."
Bergen, which improved to 15-3-0, will now face Sussex County Community College in the Region XIX "B" Finals on November 1st at Union County College.
