Volleyball 1-1 after First Day at Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament

SYRACUSE, NY - The Northampton women's volleyball team finished 1-1 after the first day of competition at the Cara Byrant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga Community College on Friday.

The two-time defending tournament champions defeated the host Lazers 25-15, 25-9 in their first match of the tournament, but then were upset by SUNY Delhi, 21-25, 23-25 in their second match of the day.

The Spartans, will resume pool play on Saturday morning at 10:15 when they face Finger Lakes Community College and then face nationally-ranked Monroe Community College at 12:30 before playoff competition begins.

Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South ) had 8 kills vs. Onondaga, while Lori Deutsch (Bath, PA/Northampton ) recorded 8 digs and Anona Bauman (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) had 19 assists. Onondaga dropped to 16-12 with the loss.

In match two vs. SUNY Delhi, Babezki had 7 kills and Morgan Barnes (Macungie, PA/Salem Christian ) added 5, but errors proved to be the downfall for the Spartans, as they committed 9 service errors, 4 receiving errors and 2 ball-handling errors in the loss. Northampton led 20-14 in the first set and allowed the Broncos to close on an 11-1 run to earn the win.

Northampton is now 20-4 overall on the season after the split, while SUNY Delhi improved to 12-9 with the win.
