Box Score BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery County Community College outscored Northampton 46-38 in the second half as poor free throw shooting and turnovers continued to plague the Spartans in a 82-74 loss on Tuesday night at Bach Arena.
Tied 36-36 at the half, the second half was a see-saw affair that saw each team lead by as many as 8 points, before the Mustangs were able to capitalize down the stretch and earn the important EPAC victory. "Unfortunately we continue to struggle to take care of the ball (26 turnovers) and convert free throws (13 of 22) and in this league, you can't make those type of mistakes and hope to win," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I thought our effort was good ... the guys are working hard, we just need to be able to stay focused for 40 minutes."
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA /Pennsbury ) scored 19 points and
Justin Kusiappouh (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
D'Montie Shaw (York, PA/William Penn ) (12) and
Alquinton McNeil (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) (11) were also in double figures as the Spartans finished 30 of 69 from the field.
The loss drops Northampton to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in Region XIX and 1-2 in EPAC play, while Montgomery improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.
The Spartans return to the hardwood on Saturday when they travel to Thaddeus Stevens College for a 1pm contest.
