Box Score SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team outscored Lehigh Carbon 38 to 22 in the second half to earn a 69-56 victory on Tuesday evening at Berrier Hall.
After allowing Lehigh Carbon to convert eight 3-pointers in the first half, the Spartans turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, limiting the Cougars to only one trifecta and holding them to 22 points. Â "We struggled defensively in the first half," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I thought our defensive effort in the second half really changed the game as we were able to pressure the ball and get some turnovers and limit LCCC's open looks."
The Spartans also got back on track at the foul line, converting 10 of 14 free throws after struggling from the charity stripe the last few games. Â "No question, converting free throws and limiting turnovers makes a huge difference for us," remarked McCarthy, "the second half tonight was one of our better halves of the season."
Bryson Walton (Allentown, PA /William Allen ) led Northampton with 12 points, followed by
Alquinton McNeil (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) with 11,
Justin Kusiappouh (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) 10,
D'Montie Shaw (York, PA/William Penn ) 10 and
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) 9.
The victory moves Northampton to 5-4 overall, 3-4 in Region XIX and 3-3 in conference play.Â
Lehigh Carbon falls to 0-10 overall , 0-5 in Region XIX and 0-5 in conference.Â
Northampton returns to action on Thursday night when they host Camden County College at 8pm.Â
