BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) scored a career-high 24 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Northampton Women's Basketball team topped Brookdale Community College, 66-59 on Friday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
In a tightly contested game throughout, the Spartans used a 24-14 scoring advantage in the 4th quarter to overcome a three point deficit and earn the victory over the Jersey Blues. "This was a great overall team win," commented Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "Brookdale is one of those opponents that is always a great test for your team and I thought we were up to the challenge tonight." The win over Brookdale was the first for Northampton since November 20th, 2012 when the Spartans prevailed 67-58.
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 15 points and 7 assists and
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) had 12 points and 8 rebounds as the Spartans outrebounded Brookdale, 46-27. "We thought going in that we could control the boards," explained Belfield, "Asia (Morton) and Z (Sanders) did a great job, as did Kye and Amber (Farnholtz), everyone battled on the backboards."
The victory moves Northampton to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in Region XIX as they head to semester break.
Brookdale falsl to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on January 12th when they travel to Luzerne County Community College.
