EDISON, NJ - The Middlesex County College women's basketball team downed Northampton, 76-61, on Tuesday evening in a battle of Region XIX unbeatens at Monkowski Hall.
The Colts jumped on the Spartans early, using pressure defense to take a 24-16 lead after the first quarter. "Once we settled down, we got some good looks," remarked Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "but we just couldn't finish." The Spartans made a run in the 3rd quarter, but Middlesex answered with a 6-0 run to take a 64-47 lead heading into the final stanza. "Give Middlesex credit, they are very talented and well-coached," stated Belfield.
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) led Northampton with 21 points and 5 assists, while
Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) was the only other Spartan in double-figures with 10.
Asia Morton (Easton, PA/Easton ) had a team-high 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
The loss drops Northampton, ranked 8th in the latest NJCAA national poll, to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in Region XIX.
Middlesex improves to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are now off until December 18th when they host perennial Region XIX power Brookdale Community College at 5pm.
