SYRACUSE, NY - The nationally-ranked Northampton baseball team improved to 9-6 on the season with a doubleheader split at Onondaga Community College on Sunday.
Mike Anthony (Audubon, PA /Methacton ) took the loss in game one, slipping to 2-2 on the season, as the Spartans fell 7 to 3. Â
Luini Ortiz (Allentown, PA /Emmaus ) was 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored,
Cory Snyder (Kintnersville, PA /Palisades ) was 2 for 4 and
Jakob Pacheco (Emmaus, PA /Emmaus ) was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
In game two,
Zach Werner (East Stroudsburg, PA /E. Stroudsburg South ) improved to 4-0, throwing a complete game 7-hitter, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6 as the Spartans prevailed 3-2. Â Northampton, which trailed 2-0 entering the top of the 7th, received singles from Pacheco and
Josh Nales (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) and then a bunt single from
Seever Hoyak (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) to load the bases with no outs. Â
Frank Angeloni (Westville, NJ/Highland (NJ)) walked to score Pacheco and make it 2-1 and then Oritz hit a sacrifice fly to score Nales and tie the game at 2-2. Â
Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) then reached on an error allowing Hoyak to score and give the Spartans a 3-2 lead.
Onondaga put the tying and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd with one out, but Werner recorded a strikeout and a groundout to second base to end the game and give Northampton the split.
NCC, now 9-6 overall, travels to Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday for their first Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference matchup of the season.
Onondaga moves to 2-6 overall.Â
