BETHLEHEM, Pa. - 4th ranked Cumberland County College (NJ) used strong pitching and solid hitting to sweep a Region XIX doubleheader from Northampton on Sunday, downing the Spartans 9-1 and 11-0.
The Dukes had 14 hits in game one, scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning to break open a 0-0 deadlock. Â
Zach Werner (East Stroudsburg, PA /E. Stroudsburg South ) went 4.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and 7 runs while striking out 3, dropping his record to 4-3 on the season. Â
Northampton had 6 hits, keyed by a
Frank Angeloni (Westville, NJ/Highland (NJ)) two out double in the 5th inning, followed by a RBI triple from
Jakob Pacheco (Emmaus, PA /Emmaus ), which scored the Spartans only run of the game.
Mike Anthony (Audubon, PA /Methacton ) got the start in game two, but only lasted one inning, giving up 6 hits and 7 runs in dropping to 3-4 on the season. Â Head Coach

Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA /Reading Area ) was 1 for 3 as the Spartans lost for the 6th time in their last 9 games.Â
Northampton falls to 16-15 overall and 7-9 in Region XIX, while Cumberland improves to 28-5 overall and 14-3 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to conference play on Tuesday night when they play Lehigh Carbon Community College at Limeport Stadium at 7:00pm.Â
