Baseball Downs Lehigh Carbon in EPAC Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball opened conference play with a 9-5 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Thursday at Spartan Field.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning on a RBI single from Josh McClain (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock ), scoring Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA /Reading Area ) and Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) to give Northampton a 2-0 lead.

Jackob Pacheco singled, stole second, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and eventually scored in the 3rd inning to put Northampton up 3-0.

In the bottom of the 5th, Frank Angeloni (Westville, NJ/Highland (NJ)) walked, advanced to 2nd on a groundout, stole rd and then scored on a RBI single from McClain to make it 4-1 Northampton after five.

The Spartans added two runs in the 6th to give them a 6-2 advantage and added a run in the 7th on a safety squeeze by Cory Snyder (Kintnersville, PA /Palisades ) which scored Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ), making the score 7-3.

Northampton added two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th, highlighted by a RBI double from McClain (4 for 5, 3 RBI). Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) finished 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI and Jakob Pacheco (Emmaus, PA /Emmaus ) was 1 for 2 with a run scored, stolen base and RBI.

Sean Williams (Belvidere, NJ /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) earned the victory on the mound, going 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 4 and striking out 3 to improve to 2-1.

10th ranked Northampton, now 10-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play, returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Rowan College @ Gloucester County to face the 9th ranked Roadrunners with game one set to start at 12pm.
