BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team rode the right arm of
Zach Werner (East Stroudsburg, PA /E. Stroudsburg South ) as they downed Montgomery County Community College, 5-0, on Thursday, handing the Mustangs their first conference loss of the season.
Werner improved to 5-3 on the season as he went 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs and striking out 8.
Walt Roland (Allentown, PA /Central Catholic ),
Mike Anthony (Audubon, PA /Methacton ) and
Josh McClain (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock ) each pitched an inning in relief as the Spartans improved to 18-15.
The Spartans scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning as
Frank Angeloni (Westville, NJ/Highland (NJ)) walked,
Jakob Pacheco (Emmaus, PA /Emmaus ) singled and advanced Angeloni to second.
Luini Ortiz (Allentown, PA /Emmaus ) put down a sacrifice bunt, which moved Angeloni to third and Pacheco to second.
Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) reached base on an error, scoring Angeloni and advancing Pacheco to third.
Josh McClain (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock ) grounded out, scoring Pacheco to make it 2-0.
Pacheco was 2 for 4 with a run scored,
Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA /Reading Area ) was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, a double and 2 stolen bases and
Seever Hoyak (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
The victory improves Northampton to 18-15 overall, 9-9 in Region XIX and 8-2 in Conference play
Montgomery falls to 20-6 overall, 10-1 in Region XIX and 8-1 in Conference play.
The Spartans travel to Edison, NJ on Saturday to face Middlesex County College in a Region XIX doubleheader starting at noon.
