BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team continued their playoff push with a doubleheader split vs. Brookdale Community College on Saturday, falling in game one 3-2 and rebounding to take game two, 3-2.
In game one, Brookdale overcame a 2-0 deficit, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning, fueled by RBI singles from Aaron Kane and Tyler Folger, to earn the 3-2 victory. Â
Mike Anthony (Audubon, PA /Methacton ) went the distance on the mound for Northampton, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out 8, falling to 3-5 overall with the loss. Â
Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) was 2 for 3 with a double and run scored,
Josh McClain (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock ) was 1 for 3 with a run scored,
Jake Lisinicchia (Easton, PA /Easton) was 1 for 3 with a RBI and
Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA /Reading Area ) was 1 for 3 to lead the Spartans.Â
The Spartans scored their two runs in the bottom second as Hauser led off with a double, moved to third on a McClain single and scored on a Lisinicchia single to left field. Â Severino singles, moving McClain to third and Lisinicchia to second, loading the bases with no outs. Â McClain scored when
Anthony Rodriguez (Easton, PA /Wilson ) grounded into a 6-4-3 doubleplay to make it 2-0,
Troy Van Houten (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley ) then grounded out to end the inning.Â
In game two, Northampton struck first in the bottom of the 3rd as
Seever Hoyak (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) singled to left field and then scored on a
Frank Angeloni (Westville, NJ/Highland (NJ)) triple to center field. Â The Spartans added another run in the bottom of the 5th as Hoyak doubled to left field, advanced to third on a single by
Luini Ortiz (Allentown, PA /Emmaus ) and then scored on a
Ben Hauser (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks - East ) single to make it 2-0.
Brookdale tied the game in the top of the 6th, but the Spartans responded in the bottom half of the inning as Severino doubled to left field and then scored what proved to be the winning run on a double by
Anthony Rodriguez (Easton, PA /Wilson ).
Eddy Albertson (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty) earned the complete game victory, scattering 7 hits, allowing 2 runs, with 7 strikeouts and no walks to improve to 2-2 on the season. Â Hoyak finished 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Ortiz was 2 for 3 and Hauser was for 1-2 with a RBI as the Spartans had 8 hits in the victory.Â

Northampton moves to 21-16 overall and 12-10 in Region XIX, while Brookdale is now 24-16 overall and 17-6 in Region XIX.
The Spartans close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host Division II Valley Forge Military College at 3:30pm in a single 9-inning contest.Â
