Men's Soccer Blanks Harrisburg 4-0

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Baidy Ba (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) broke a scoreless tie when he found the back of the net 23 minutes into the game to give Northampton a 1-0 lead and the Spartans added 6 more goals to earn a 7-0 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Ba finished with 3 goals, giving him 10 on the season, while Aaron Timbe (Elgin, IL/Larkin (IL)), Sam Gaye (Northampton, PA/Northampton ), Cesar Hernandez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg) and Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) each added a goal for the Spartans. Ba, Jacona, Robert Bradford (Bethlehem, PA /Northampton ) and Hamdi Selmi (Tunisia/Soussa - Tunisia ) had assists as Northampton had 26 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) and the starting defensive unit of Robert Bradford (Bethlehem, PA /Northampton ), Brian Angel, Armando Gonzalez (Bath, PA /Nazareth ), Matt McCoy (Upper Mt. Bethel, PA /Bangor) and David Chirco (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg) recorded their first shutout of the season, limiting Harrisburg to 5 shots.

"I thought we started a little slow," commented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "but once we got on the board, our energy level really jumped."

Northampton, which improves to 4-1-0, travels to Montgomery County Community College on September 22nd to face the Mustangs at 3:30pm. Northampton defeated Montgomery 5-4 in overtime on September 3rd in their season opener.

Harrisburg falls to 3-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Region XIX.
