Men's Soccer Downs Montgomery 1-0

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) scored the game-winning goal and Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ) recorded his 2nd consecutive shutout as the Northampton Men's Soccer team defeated Montgomery County Community College 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Bach Field.

Jacona took a pass from Baidy Ba (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) with 23 minutes remaining in the game and deposited in the back of the net for the game's only goal and Meral recorded 7 saves in net for the shutout.  "I'm really proud of how the defense played tonight," stated Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "that group has really come together over the last couple weeks and did a great job holding down a very potent offense today."

In a very defensive affair, the Spartans outshot the Mustangs 16 to 7 and took 8 corners to 5 for Montgomery.

The victory moves Northampton to 5-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in Region XIX.

Montgomery falls to 5-2-0 overall, with both losses coming to Northampton, as the Spartans prevailed 5-4 in overtime on September 3rd.  

The Spartans are now off for a week before traveling to Schnecksville, PA to face Lehigh Carbon Community College on September 29th at 4pm.
